The Chattooga Family Connection has officially launched its 5th Annual “Stuff a Stocking” event, inviting the community to help bring holiday cheer and essential support to children and teens across the Trion and Chattooga school systems. Celebrating half a decade of giving, the initiative aims to brighten the season for students from Early Head Start all the way to 12th grade who may need a little extra assistance.

“Can you believe it’s been 5 years?” asked Maisha Ludy, Coordinator for Chattooga Family Connection. “Each year, we help bring a little holiday spirit to children in both the Trion and Chattooga school systems who may need a little extra support. We assist students from the Early Head Start program all the way to 12th grade.”

The “Stuff a Stocking” drive relies on generous donations from individuals, businesses, and community groups to fill stockings with a variety of toys, practical items, and essentials. Donors are encouraged to contribute new, unwrapped items, with specific suggestions provided to cater to different age groups.

For Younger Children, suggested items include:

Toys & Fun: Small dolls or action figures, mini LEGO sets, Hot Wheels or toy cars, Play-Doh or slime kits, fidget spinners or pop-its, mini puzzles or travel games, bouncy balls or yo-yos.
Arts & Crafts: Coloring books, crayons or markers, stickers and sticker books, small craft kits, washable paint sets, notebooks or sketch pads.
Practical & Cozy: Fun socks, gloves or mittens, small hats or beanies, character toothbrushes, bubble bath or bath toys.

For Teens, the focus shifts to items that cater to their specific needs and interests:

Personal Care: Lip balm or gloss, lotion or hand sanitizer, perfume or cologne samples, nail polish or nail kits, hair accessories or scrunchies, travel-size toiletries.
Warm & Cozy: Fuzzy socks or gloves, beanies, small blankets, reusable hand warmers.
Entertainment: Card games (UNO, Phase 10, etc.), earbuds, phone charger cords, mini journals or planners, pens or highlighters.
Gift Cards: To popular local spots like McDonald’s, Zaxby’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and Walmart are also highly appreciated.

“Let’s make this season brighter together!” Ludy added, emphasizing the collective impact of community contributions.
