After several months of the unemployment rate dropping or remaining steady in Chattooga County when February’s unemployment numbers came out this week, Chattooga County had jumped to 14% unemployment.  With a relatively small workforce of less than 10,000 people even a small number of new unemployment claims can cause a big shift in the monthly numbers.

To the north Walker County had a February unemployment rate of 9.9% and Floyd County saw an unemployment rate of 10.9%.  State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said that he hopes that unemployment numbers are starting to stabalize and that the state will begin to see more people come off of unemployment roles.
