As of November 1st, the Chattooga County Library is now officially part of the Sara Hightower Regional Library System.  The Chattooga County Library’s locations in Summerville and Trion join locations of the regional library in Rome, Rockmart, Cave Spring and Cedartown.

The Chattooga County Library Board voted to make the change due in part to the state requiring a librarian with a masters degree – something that would have been an added expense for the local library system.  Under the agreement with the regional library, the Chattooga County Library Board continues to oversee the operations of the library in Trion and Summerville.  Also, a representative from the Chattooga County Library Board will now sit on the Regional Board of Directors.

While the merger is expected to bring extra resources to the local library, you don’t have to worry about having a new library card.  Your current, valid library card will still be accepted at both branches of the Chattooga County Library.
