A  Chattooga County man was killed during a car wreck on Martha Berry Highway on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 1. according to the Floyd County Police Department.

The man, identified as Darell Pettyjohn -age 49 of Summerville was killed when his blue Chevrolet Cavalier collided with a red Ford 150.  Pettyjohn was pronounced dead at the scene, just north of Armuchee High School.

The second driver died later Saturday afternoon according to Floyd County Police. Donna Lee Darn, 54, of an Everett Springs Road address, died around 5:30 p.m. at Floyd Medical Center.

Darn was driving south on Martha Berry Highway near Walenda Drive in a Ford F-150. Pettyjohn was driving north on Martha Berry Highway in a Chevy Cavalier when he crossed the centerline.

The vehicles collided head-on.  Witnesses told police that Pettyjohn drove off the shoulder of the road and then swerved back onto the road and then crossed the center line.

Floyd County Police  said it could not be determined why Pettyjohn appeared to be driving erratically.  Funeral arrangements are pending for Pettyjohn.
