COVID-19 forced the Chattooga Middle School Indians football team to forfeit an important game – the FCAA Region Football Championship game.  The ensuing days led to a lot of social media buzz after the FCAA named Ashworth Middle School in Gordon County the “champions”, despite never playing a championship game.

The Chattooga Indian’s appealed the decision, but the executive board of the FCAA voted to uphold the “championship” for Ashworth Middle School.

The FCAA said that they were following GHSA guidelines that says any forfeiture due to COVID-19 counts as a 1-0 “victory” for the opposing team, which led to Ashworth being crowned “champions.”

After a social media uproar from Chattooga Indian supporters, Ashworth Middle School asked the FCAA to declare the Chattooga Middle School Indians “Co-champions”.

It wasn’t the outcome the Indians wanted.  The undefeated team was looking forward to earning the championship on the football field.
