The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair may not be happening this month, but the good news is that the local livestock shows are still scheduled to take place – starting with the 4-H – FFA Poultry Show and Auction in September.
Fair Council members told WZQZ News that the decision to cancel the fair due to the COVID-19 pandemic was a difficult one, but they are happy to announce that the poultry and hog shows will still take place between now and the end of November.
The poultry show and auction is always a highlight of the fair. 4-H and FFA Students receive their chicks in the spring and are responsible for taking care of them and keeping records about their poultry. Then, the students pick out their three best birds and bring them to the Poultry Show and Auction – which is normally during the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair. The poultry is judged and then the students have an opportunity to sell their poultry to the highest bidder at the auction that follows.
So this year, the Poultry Show and Auction will be taking place on Thursday, September 3rd at the Chattooga County Ag Building. The chicken show results will be announced starting at 6:30 PM and the auction will take place at 7 PM.
Social distancing will be in place, but the event will also take place live on Facebook.
