The data shows that from 2008 to 2009, average annual employment in the 15 counties dropped by 22,929 jobs. The Regional Commission does project that the region will lose another 3,232 jobs by the end of 2010.
Floyd County is expected to drop 437 positions; Bartow County is projected to be down 1,297 jobs while Chattooga is projected to lose 206 jobs.
The Commission anticipates that Gordon County will be down 460 jobs and Catoosa County is projected to lose 585 jobs.
The report suggests that jobs will actually be added in Polk and Walker counties. Polk County is expected to grow by 44 positions while Walker County is expected to add 82 jobs.
The same report suggests that average weekly wages across the region will fall by almost $10 a week from 2009 to 2010. The data shows that average weekly wage across the entire region was $605.20 for 2009 while the projection for 2010 was set at $596.48
Bartow and Walker County’s are the only jurisdictions projected to show an increase in the weekly wage average while Floyd, Catoosa, Chattooga, Gordon and Polk are all projecting losses according to the regional commission’s staff findings.
