Chattooga County property tax bills are on the way according to Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton. Hampton says the 2023 property tax bills should have started arriving in mailboxes over this past weekend.

If you have a homestead exemption, you will see “HTRG Credit” on your bill. This is a grant Governor Kemp and the General Assembly provided from the state for homeowners to help ease the burden of property taxes. This is only for 2023 and will likely not be available in 2024.

These taxes are due March 1, 2024 and no interest or penalties will be added to 2023 real property bills until March 2, 2024.
If you still have an active appeal, you won’t receive a bill or a due date until it is finalized. If you sold property in 2023, you will receive a bill for those taxes and a copy will also be sent to the buyer.
The one responsible for paying the bill will depend on what was agreed upon when it was sold.
