Chattooga County Public Works Director Joe Reed spoke with WZQZ News on Thursday and said that the county is working to help those who have been impacted by the Easter Sunday tornado and subsequent storms.

Joe Reed says that starting Monday (April 20, 2020) the county will start accepting debris at the Chattooga County Transfer Station, free of charge.  Also, people can take downed tree debris to the the remote dump site on Highway 27 south of Summerville, free of charge.

In addition, homeowners that need chert for driveways can get free chert from the county.  They would need to bring their own truck to pick up the chert, but the county will provide the chert and load it for free.

Reed said that these services are for those who experienced storm damage.  Also, Reed noted that the county cannot do work on private property.

If you have received damage on private property from the storms, and have not contacted the Chattooga EMA, you should call their non-emergency number at 706-857-3400.  The Georgia Emergency Management Agency is working to identify storm damage to private property in the county and there may be possible assistance forthcoming.
