Chattooga County ranked 123 out of 159 counties in the State of Georgia for total Farm Gate Value of agricultural commodities in ranking that has been released by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.
According to the report Chattooga County had a total farm gate value of $14,784,552 in 2008. The farm gate value report is a complied survey of Georgia Cooperative Extension county agents and commodity specialists for the purpose of providing annual county level information for the value of all food and fiber commodities grown in the state.
The 2008 farm gate value report indicated that Georgia’s agricultural production value was about $356 million (+3.1%) more in 2008 than 2007. Value gains in peanuts and broilers more than offset losses in beef cows and cotton.
