The Chattooga County Registrar Office says that they have received and processed absentee ballot applications from over 17% of Chattooga County’s registered voters. The General Primary Election and Presidential Preference Primary Election were scheduled to have taken place in May, but that date was moved to June 9th by Georgia’s Secretary of State.
A letter went out to all registered voters that they could return, requesting an absentee ballot. As of yesterday, 2,442 of Chattooga County’s 14,121 registered voters had requested absentee ballots. Those ballots must be received by June 5th. The last day to register to vote for the June 9th Primary is May 11, 2020. Some of Chattooga County’s precincts have absentee ballot requests of 20% of more of the total number of registered voters, including – Haywood (25%), Subligna (22%), Teloga (21%) and Cloudland (20%).
Remember, when you request an absentee ballot – or if you choose to vote in person on Election Day – you will have to choose either a Democratic or Republican ballot. However, there are no contested local races on the Democratic ballot. There are contested races for the Republican nominee for Chattooga County Commissioner and Chattooga County Probate Judge. Those names will appear on the Republican ballot in June. In November, you can vote for any candidate of your choice, regardless of political party.
The Chattooga County Registrar Office says that Chattooga County voters should start receiving absentee ballots in the mail this week.
