School closed on Thursday and Friday Chattooga County Schools to Close Due to Hurricane Helene
On Wednesday afternoon, Chattooga County School Supt. Michelle Helie announced that school would be canceled for all county schools on Thursday and Friday. You can read the full statement below:
Georgia is currently under a State of Emergency due to the expected impact of Hurricane Helene. As a result, Chattooga County Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024.
In light of the potential for high winds, we recognize that having buses and our young drivers on the road presents a safety risk, which further necessitates this closure. All scheduled afternoon activities for today, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, will proceed as planned, but all school events for Thursday are canceled. The safety of our students, staff, and community is our highest priority. Chattooga County Schools is actively monitoring the storm’s path and collaborating with local emergency management agencies to coordinate response efforts.
At this time, we anticipate that Friday evening and Saturday events will continue as scheduled; however, we will provide updates as necessary. We will continually assess conditions to ensure everyone’s safety. Please note that Learn from Home packets are not necessary during this State of Emergency weather event. We encourage our families and community members to stay safe and adhere to any advisories from local authorities.
Please enjoy your fall break next week and we will see everyone on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Thank you for your understanding.
