A Chattooga County teenager was arrested with an open bottle of whiskey in the vehicle and is accused of fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was on patrol on Oak Hill Road in Lyerly on Tuesday of last week when he saw a vehicle that was weaving in the roadway.  The deputy attempted a traffic stop and the car sped up reaching speeds between 75 and 80 miles per hour.  The vehicle finally came to a stop near the intersection of Josh Ward and Oak Hill Roads.

While speaking with the driver, the deputy noticed an open bottle of Fireball Whiskey in the vehicle.  The driver told the deputy that he “didn’t know it was law enforcement” behind him and that is why he sped up.

Seventeen-year-old Garrett Rodney-Don Womack was charged with underage possession-consumption of alcohol, failure to maintain a single lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, open container of alcohol, reckless driving and driving too fast for conditions and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
