A Chattooga High School Senior is collecting prom dresses for high school girls that can't afford the pricey gowns. Melissa Maynard is a member of Chattooga County 4-H.

Melissa says she and her sister just started out collecting dresses for Chattooga High girls, but then realized that girls that attend Trion High, or girls that live here but attend schools elsewhere may also need dresses.

She's getting some help from the Chattooga County Extension Office; Ms, Jarrett, of Summerville Middle School's  FFA Program, and Ms. Broom, Chattooga High prom coordinator. A local woman has also volunteered to style hair free of charge.

So far, they have nine dresses available, but are looking for more. They are also collecting shoes, jewelry and any other evening wear accessories.

If you're interested in helping out by donating a dress or cash, you can contact the Chattooga County Extension office, or call Chattooga High School and leave a message for the prom coordinator.  Girls needing prom dresses can also get in touch with those same contacts.
