The Chattooga County Young Farmers held their annual banquet this past weekend at the Chattooga County Ag Building, bringing together local farmers, supporters, and community members to celebrate achievements and foster connections within the agricultural community. During the event, several awards were presented to recognize outstanding contributions and accomplishments within the organization.
Joy Phelan was honored as the Outstanding Member for her dedication and active participation in the Young Farmers program. The Farm Family award went to Christopher and Sally Kerce, who have exemplified commitment to agricultural practices and community involvement. The “Friends of the Young Farmers” award was presented to AgGeorgia Farm Credit, and Mike Bridges, acknowledging their vital support of the Young Farmers initiative.
The banquet featured a photo contest that showcased the talent within the community. In the human interest category, Reba Cargle took first place, with Casey Sprayberry and Mandy Hicks taking second and third place respectively. In the scenic category, Becky Pardue took first place with Reba Cargle and Mandy Hicks taking second and third place.
The Georgia Young Farmer program serves as the adult education component of Georgia’s Agricultural Education initiative, designed to provide systematic instruction for young farmers actively engaged in the business of farming. The annual banquet not only highlights individual and collective achievements but also strengthens the bonds within the farming community.
