If you are headed to the lake this week, neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff Jeff Shaver is calling on all drivers to do their part this week as the county participates in “Southern Slowdown Week,” a multi-state initiative aimed at reducing traffic accidents by encouraging safer driving habits.
Southern Slowdown Week is a concerted effort stretching across multiple Southern states, focusing on heightened awareness and enforcement of traffic laws, particularly concerning speed. The campaign highlights the critical role driver behavior plays in road safety.
In a direct message to the community, Sheriff Shaver underscored the critical importance of the campaign. “Speeding is one of the leading causes of crashes, and simply slowing down can prevent tragedy,” Sheriff Shaver stated.
He emphasized that the responsibility lies with every driver to contribute to safer roadways. “I’m asking everyone in Cherokee County to do their part,” Shaver urged. “Please take a few extra seconds to watch your your speed, stay alert, and keep our roads safe. A small decision behind the wheel can make a big difference.”
The Sheriff’s Office hopes that increased vigilance and adherence to speed limits this week will lead to lasting safer driving habits on Cherokee County roads, ultimately preventing tragic accidents and saving lives. Drivers are reminded to be mindful of their surroundings and prioritize safety for themselves and others.
