One hundred and fifty years ago there probably were not any celebrations in Georgia in honor of the sixteenth President’s inauguration.  In fact, the election of 1860 that brought Abraham Lincoln to the White House was the reason many Southern states like Georgia decided to leave the Union.

One hundred and fifty years later a ceremony commemerating Lincoln’s Inauguration will be held in Northwest Georgia.  Today at the Kentucky Monument at the Chickamauga Battelfield a park ranger will speak about the sixteenth President’s inauguration and the role it played in the War Between the States.  The program will be held at 3 PM.
