According to Oakwood Baptist assistant disaster relief coordinator Vicki Garner, Oakwood’s Ministry of Hope is partnering with Gateway Mall, on Cloud Springs Road, to gather furniture and supplies to be delievered at the Bi-Lo on Shallowford Road in Chattanooga and distributed to the hardest hit areas of Catoosa County Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m..
Oakwood’s Ministry of Hope is also collecting donations, food, supplies and other items at the Food Lion in Chickamauga.
Those items will be brought to the ministry on Farming Rock Road in Chickamauga and will be taken by various teams to disaster areas and families in need in Walker and Dade counties.
Oakwood Baptist Church in Chickamauga is providing grief counseling to citizens dealing with loss of life and property due to Wednesday’s ravaging weather.
Oakwood has also worked with the Red Cross at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School and the Walker Chamber of Commerce in Rock Spring on Thursday, April 28 preparing meals. On Friday evening, April 29, those meals will be provided to around 600 needy families at the Walker County Civic Center.
Oakwood has also teamed up with neighboring businesses and agencies to feed EMS workers early Friday, April 29 morning.
The church has opened its doors in Chickamauga to provide showers for citizens who are without power. This will continue throughout the weekend.
