Chattooga High School has been named a “Math Leader” School by the Georgia Department of Education. This recognition is given to schools that have excelled in mathematics achievement or growth. The criteria for the Math Leader Awards focus on the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above in mathematics, emphasizing numeracy skills in fifth and eighth grades.

A total of 624 schools in Georgia met the qualifications to be recognized as Math Leaders. State School Superintendent Richard Woods congratulated these schools for their dedication to implementing the new K-12 Mathematics Standards and preparing students for future success.

The Math Leader qualifications are based on student performance on the Georgia Milestones mathematics assessments. Schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels were recognized for their achievements in mathematics education.

Georgia’s new K-12 Mathematics Standards, implemented in 2023-24, aim to provide a clear and age-appropriate curriculum that allows students to master concepts thoroughly. The success of these standards was evident in the 2024 Georgia Milestones assessments, where students demonstrated notable improvement in mathematics performance, indicating the positive impact of the new standards on student learning and achievement. Throughout the fall, Superintendent Woods will visit Math Leader schools to acknowledge and celebrate their accomplishments in mathematics education.
