On Tuesday evening, a group of citizens held a meeting at the Chattooga County Civic Center to discuss problems that they see with a land use ordinance adopted by Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry earlier this year.
Commissioner Elsberry was invited to the meeting, but said he had prior commitments and couldn’t attend. He reportedly told the citizens that if they wanted to address any issues, they should come to the next planning committee meeting in October.
There was a large turnout for the meeting.

Some of the issues the citizens group are concerned with include the lack of appeals process for the ordinance and the fact that the sole commissioner of the county can arbitrarily override any part of the provision – or of the committee that he appointed.
