The Summerville City Council voted to extend a contract to Truck Town in Summerville for mechanic work on the city’s vehicles at Monday night’s city council meeting.
It was a decision that the council had put off for several weeks, with the mayor and council members saying that they wanted to look at the bids and have some questions answered before awarding the contract.
There were two bids submitted for the work. The Corner Garage submitted a bid of $39,500 and Truck Town submitted a bid of $25,100. Mayor Harry Harvey said that he and Public Works Director Terry Tinney had talked with Truck Town and that they had told the city that if they had to keep a vehicle more than two days, they would supply a loaner vehicle to the city. The council asked Tinney what he thought, and Tinney replied “I think we need to give Truck Town a shot at it.”
Mayor Harvey said that Truck Town had all of the necessary equipment, licensing, permits and insurance to perform the work.
The council voted 4-1 to approve the contract on a motion by Councilman Earl Parris and a second by Joe Money. Parris and Money were joined in approving the contract with votes from Councilman “Buddy” Windle and Zach Martin. Councilman David Ford opposed the contract.
