With storms expected to move through the area over the next several days, the City of Summerville is encouraging residents and local business owners to prepare for the possibility of high winds and localized flooding.
Beginning Friday morning, October 9, sand and bags will be available to residents who need to protect their property from potential rising water.
The supplies will be available at the city lot on Henry Street, directly behind the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Summerville.
City officials say the sandbag station will be self-service, meaning residents will be responsible for filling their own bags.
The City of Summerville is also encouraging residents to take several precautions ahead of the approaching storms, including securing outdoor furniture, trash cans and other loose objects that could be blown around by strong winds.
Homeowners and business owners should inspect gutters and nearby storm drains to make sure water can flow freely and help reduce the risk of localized flooding.
Residents are also encouraged to charge electronic devices and monitor local weather forecasts and warnings as the storm system approaches.
The city is asking residents to share the information with neighbors and local business owners so everyone has an opportunity to prepare for potentially severe weather.
