Saturday morning temperatures are in the low 60’s and we will see a mostly cloudy day today, with high temperatures around 77 degrees.  Just a 20% chance for showers today, but that changes as we head into Sunday. Residents of Northwest Georgia should prepare for a potential round of strong to severe storms beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing through Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are increasingly confident in a line of storms developing, bringing with it the possibility of damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and locally heavy rainfall. While the hail threat appears limited, the atmospheric conditions are ripe for significant storm development. The initial storms are expected to develop Sunday afternoon, with more widespread activity overnight as a stronger weather system moves into the region. The primary threat will be damaging winds, but the possibility of isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out, particularly in central Georgia. The line of storms is predicted to move across the state from west to east throughout Monday. While the fast movement of the storms should prevent widespread flash flooding, localized nuisance flooding is possible in areas with poor drainage. Rainfall totals from Sunday night through Monday night are expected to range from 0.75 to 1.50 inches. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe storms across northwest Georgia for Sunday night into Monday morning, and the entire region for Monday afternoon and evening.

Residents are urged to stay informed, monitor weather updates, and have a plan in place in case severe weather strikes. A warming trend is expected to precede the storms. Drier conditions are anticipated to return by Tuesday, but the possibility of showers and storms returns mid-week.
