If you look at social media or follow weather blogs you will find them abuzz with predictions from a myriad of sources about the possibility of the "S" word next week.  Yes, there is an increasing chance that Northwest Georgia, including Chattooga County, could see measurable snowfall sometime during the first to middle party of the week.

Today (Friday) we will not warm up much past the 40 degree mark today after overnight lows that dipped down in the teens.  Lows tonight will be in the mid to low twenties.  On Saturday, we should see a beautiful day with plenty of sun and see a high in the low fifties. Then Saturday night lows will dip back down into the teens and Sunday the high will only be 30 degrees.

Nearly every meteorologist and weather prognosticator says that conditions are developing that could produce measurable snow fall or at least some winter precipitation.   The first mention of any possibility of snow or frozen precipitation for the immediate area is on Sunday evening when, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, there is a 20% chance.  That chance increases on Monday to a 40% chance of rain or snow on Monday and a 60% chance Monday night into Tuesday.

The conditions are all depending on a low pressure system that is posed to be in place and pull moisture out of the Gulf of Mexico towards Northwest Georgia.  The exact location of that low pressure system, combined with the temperatures and amount of moisture will determine the probability of snow.

Meteorologists say that three or four days away is a long time when it comes to predicting snow in our part of the South.   WDEF Storm Team Meteorologist Patrick Core, whose forecast you can hear on AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio daily, says the chance our area could see snow the first part of next week is increasing.
