The calendar says that winter is officially over a week away, but residents of Chattooga County have got a taste of winter with some snow and extremely low temperatures. Highs in many parts of the county on Monday never made it out of the mid-twenties. The Weather Channel tells us that we can look for another cold day today, and maybe a chance for some mixed winter percipitation on Wednesday evening before a gradual warm-up towards the end of the week.
County work crews were out early Monday morning salting down road-ways in the higher elevations of the county. Public Works Director Lamar Canada told AM 1180 that his crews monitored the roads throughout the day on Monday and salted several different areas including the streets at Cloudland, Gilreath Mill Road, Stateline Road and Trion-Teloga Road.
