Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry said this week that the repair to a well pump with the county’s water system will cost between $8,000 and $10,000.

The commissioner said that the well is now back online with a new pump but the exact cause of the pump’s failure wasn’t known.  Elsberry said it could have been “normal wear and tear or it could have been a lightning strike.”

When asked about the possibility of keeping a well pump on hand for instances such as the one that shut down one of the county’s wells, Eslberry cited the cost of the pump as being prohibitive.

The commissioner also commented that no progress has been made on securing a new dump site to serve the citizens of the Menlo area.
