Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Witners has hired a new EMA Director for the county. Longtime Summerville fireman Eddie Henderson will take over the newly created position as of October 1st. Henderson’s main duties will be to manage the E911 Center, write grants and to coordinate local emergency services in the event of an emergency.
Commissioner Winters pointed to the Good Friday Tornado of this year as an example of an event where coordination between emergency personell would benefit the county. Henderson will be making a salary of $42,000 per year. Previously the position of EMA director was filled in the case of an emergency by either EMS Director Herbert Dodd or the county public works superintendent.
