Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry will hold a public meeting on Tuesday concerning the millage rate for Chattooga County property owners.

There are two taxing authorities in Chattooga County – the commissioner and the Chattooga County Board of Education.  Both are required by law to hold public meetings to set the millage rate for property owners.  The millage rate is the term used by Georgia taxing authorities to calculate property tax. A mill is one one-thousandth of a dollar, and in property tax terms is equal to $1.00 of tax for each $1,000 of assessment.

The proposed millage rate of 16.0706  is the lowest rate in five years, according to the Commissioner.

The meeting will be held tomorrow evening at 5 PM at the Chattooga County Civic Center and the public is welcome to attend.
