The Georgia General Assembly recently passed legislation creating a new Chattooga County Public Facilities Authority.  The new governmental board was created at the request of Commissioner Blake Elsberry in an effort to refinance loans that were taken out to expand public water throughout the county years ago.

The commissioner says by refinancing the loans, the county can save around $1.2 million.  The new authority was created to be able to refinance the loans.

Three of the four members of the commission are county employees: Public Works Director Yancey Robinson; Water District Supt. Eugene Cordell and Commissioner Elsberry.  The other two members of the authority will be local businessmen William Benefield and Nick Casey.
