Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry says that he is rolling back the millage rate for 2021 and that move will mean the county will bring in around $347,000 less in revenue over 2020.

The commissioner commented last week that he was doing the rollback to help out with property owners who’s property has been assessed at higher values in 2021.  The Chattooga Board of Education has said they will increase their portion of the millage rate this year.  Between the Commissioner’s rollback and the Board of Education’s increase in millage rate, most Chattooga County property owners won’t see much of a change in this year’s tax bill.

What Commissioner Elsberry has not outlined is how the $347,000 shortfall in tax collections will be dealt with in the 2022 Fiscal Year budget.   Elsberry did say that county employee’s salaries will not be affected.

In his weekly media meeting yesterday, the commissioner said that he will be holding a millage rate meeting and “Coffee with the Commissioner” on Friday evening, August 20th at 5 PM.  The meeting will be held at the Chattooga County Civic Center on Highway 48 in Summerville.
