Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry repealed his 2022 Land Use Ordinance and replaced it with a new Subdivision Ordinance on Friday of last week. 

Commissioner Elsberry said, “I would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting (Friday) morning to discuss the Subdivision development ordinance. There were many good questions asked and we were able to clear up some of the concerns and confusion”.

Elsberry came under fire last week after a video surfaced from 2020 when he was on record saying that any land use ordinance enacted should be voted on by the citizens of Chattooga County.  Elsberry defended his implementation of the original ordinance saying situations arose that necessitated enacting a land use ordinance without a vote by the public.

Critics say that the new ordinance is simply a repackaging and renaming of the ordinance in an election year.  The commissioner maintains that substantial and needed changes have been implemented in the updated ordinance.
