Due to the government shutdown, families relying on SNAP will not receive benefits starting today, Saturday, November 1st. The Community Resource Center (CRC) of Chattooga County is calling on the community to help serve the increased number of families in need.

Currently, CRC supports around 800 families each month and expects this number to rise. More volunteers are needed to continue providing assistance.

Volunteers can help in various ways, including unloading food donations on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, sorting donations, stocking shelves, assisting guests with paperwork, packing groceries, and delivering food to homebound individuals. Volunteering at CRC goes beyond food sorting; it also involves uplifting spirits and offering hope, as seen in the stories of the people helped.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to choose a day or half-day in the coming weeks to visit CRC. Anyone can walk in at 50 Eleanor Ave. between 8 AM and 3 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. For Tuesdays and Thursdays, calling ahead at (706) 808-0477 is recommended.

Together, the community can ensure that no one in Chattooga County goes hungry.
