Godfrey’s Tree Service is expressing heartfelt thanks to the many community members, volunteers, and businesses who stepped up to help with the demolition and cleanup of the fire-destroyed, longtime local favorite Henry’s BBQ. What unfolded over the cleanup effort was more than a job—it was a powerful example of community spirit in action.

According to Godfrey’s Tree Service, help began pouring in almost immediately after Kevin’s plan and call for assistance was shared online. Offers came from every direction, including trailers for hauling debris, drivers willing to make trips to the transfer station, heavy equipment operators, and volunteers who simply asked if extra gloves were needed. Even those who couldn’t be there in person reached out to ask how they could support the effort in other ways.

Special recognition was given to David Henry, who worked side by side with volunteers throughout the cleanup. From shoveling and sorting debris to pushing through the hardest moments, Henry remained involved every step of the way. Organizers say his determination, work ethic, and heart were an inspiration to everyone on site.

Many volunteers stayed until the final load was hauled away, making it possible to complete the cleanup far more quickly than expected. Godfrey’s Tree Service also emphasized deep appreciation for the local businesses that not only donated time, labor, and equipment, but also paid disposal fees out of their own pockets to ensure the job could be finished. Their generosity, they said, went well beyond what was asked.

Thanks were also extended to David Fletcher for his immediate response on the night of the fire, bringing a backhoe to assist the Summerville Fire Department during the emergency. His quick action and continued support were described as invaluable.

Those recognized for showing up and making a difference include the City of Summerville and Public Works, the Summerville Fire Department, Trey Skelton, Andy Allen, Jason Winters, JKJ Transport, Charlie Jarrett, M&C Fencing and More, Max Kilgore, Kolby Croft, Herring’s Dock & Door LLC, Jason Herring, Alex Busby, Matt Foster, The Sinner’s Ministry, Vada Jackson, Breezy Henderson, David Fletcher, All On Georgia – Chattooga, WZQZ Radio FM 99.1 AM 1180, online supporters who shared and commented, and the friends and family of Godfrey’s Tree Service.

“This is what community looks like,” Kevin Godfrey said, “We’re grateful, honored, and proud to stand with you all.”
