The Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (“Initiative” or “GICH”) offers communities a three-year program of collaboration and technical assistance related to housing and community development. The objective of the Initiative is to help communities create and launch a locally based plan to meet their housing needs.
The Chattooga GICH Team will have a team of five Mercer University students conducting a windshield housing assessment in the Pennville area during the month of July, specifically July 5-22. A “windshield housing assessment” means that the team members will be driving through the community to collect their data. The intent of this assessment is data collection of the housing inventory. The students will be paired up in vehicles with GICH dash posters, and they’ll be wearing branded t-shirts and badges to identify themselves as part of the housing assessment team. They will be assessing homes from their vehicle and will not be interacting with residents.
