Coming up tomorrow at Dowdy Park it will be the fourth annual Chattooga Hometown Cook-Off as part of the Steam into Summerville Railroad Days activities. Each Saturday during the month of October a different event takes place in the park for visitors that come in on the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum steam train and locals alike.
The Hometown Cook-Off is a fundraiser for “The Well” in Summerville, a home for women. More than $2,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the backyard cooking teams on Saturday. Also each team that participates receives a $25 discount voucher for the upcoming KCBS Professional Cook-Off in April that will be held in Summerville.
Cooking categories include chicken, pork and pork ribs. For the People’s Choice, a Boston butt will be provided to each participant.
Winning categories will be Grand Champion, $400; first place in each category, $300; second place in each category, $200; third place in each category, $100 and People’s Choice Award, a trophy.
