Chattooga County deputies responded to an alarm from the Trion branch and found signs of a determined, but unsuccessful, theft. The crime involved a stolen truck, which the culprits allegedly used to try to forcibly remove the ATM. Eyewitness accounts and initial findings suggest that the criminals attempted to “hook” the ATM with chains or cables attached to the truck to take both the machine and its cash.

Although the ATM was damaged, it remained intact, and the scene showed signs of a hasty escape, suggesting that the thieves faced unexpected problems. Sheriff Mark Schrader confirmed the truck was stolen from Floyd County, adding complexity to the investigation.
