Coosa Valley Technical College will hold a graduation ceremony Thursday at The Forum at 7 p.m. for 274 fall and winter graduates. The keynote speaker will be the college’s own president, Craig McDaniel, who has led the school since April 1998. On July 1, 2009, Coosa Valley Technical College is scheduled to merge with Northwestern Technical College in Walker County to become Georgia Northwestern Technical College. In October 2008, McDaniel was selected by the Technical College System of Georgia to lead Georgia Northwestern Technical College as president. Also during the ceremony, Coosa Valley Technical College will be presenting two special awards. The Grindstone Award, presented to a CVTC student who remained focused and dedicated to the completion of his education goal in spite of personal barriers and obstacles, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Customer Service to a CVTC employee for commitment to customer service to students, faculty, staff and others. County officials had discussed the possibility of using the new Third Avenue Parking Deck for the first time Thursday to aid in parking for the graduation, but that won’t happen because the inspection process won’t be completed by then.
