At Monday night’s meeting of the Summerville City Council, the council decided to take no action regarding a possible Robo-Call notification system for the city.

The city had received verbal approval from the commissioner’s office that the county would subsidize at least $4,000 on a proposed $6,000 system from a provider based in New York, with E-911 providing the database of phone numbers and addresses. One of the main advantages the city was looking for was to be able to contact residents who live in one particular part of the city, rather than contact every resident every time.

Ultimately, a lack of enthusiasm from city employees and the overall lack of information on different providers and options led to the council tabling the issue indefinitely, with councilman Joe Money remarking toward the end of discussion, “I don’t feel like I know any more about it than when we started.”
