Summerville Police are investigating an attempt to use four counterfeit $100 bills at a Dollar General store on Commerce Street on Sunday afternoon. The suspect fled the scene after a store employee identified the money as fake.
According to police, who responded to the incident at approximately 4:10 PM, a report was filed at the Dollar General located at 10551 Commerce Street. Store complainant Erica Nelson informed the responding office that a Black female entered the store and requested to load money onto her Cash App card.
Ms. Nelson stated that the female then presented an employee with four $100 bills, totaling $400, for the transaction. However, the employee quickly recognized the bills as counterfeit. Upon being told the money was fake, the female suspect immediately left the store.
Ms. Nelson confirmed to law enforcement that she did not know the identity of the female suspect.
Police stated that a police report has been filed and will be turned over to the investigations unit for further review.
Authorities remind local businesses and their employees to remain vigilant against counterfeit currency and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
