County 4-Hers Attend State 4-H Council

Never Fear… 4-H Is Here! This year’s State 4-H Council was held June 21-23, 2013. State 4-H Council is one of the most important meetings for rising 9th-12th graders Senior 4-H members to attend. It is the official annual meeting of Georgia 4-H, and is very important for each county to be represented. Counties are encouraged to have at least four delegates to serve as voters for the election of the new 2013–2014 Georgia 4-H Board of Directors. Chattooga County was represented well by the 6 youth attending. Chattooga County delegates were Abraham Carrillo, Brett Clark, Faith Coalson, Cody Conner, Tyler Hunt and Zach White.

County delegate Abraham Carrillo served on the 2012-2013 Northwest District Senior Board of Directors. During this State 4-H Council Abraham, along with over 30 other 4-Hers from across the state campaigned to be elected to serve on the 2013-2014 State 4-H Board of Directors. Although Abraham did not win a spot on this year’s board, he did an excellent job with his campaign to over 800 Georgia 4-Hers.

State 4-H Council delegates also participated in the annual Iron Clover Competition. This competition was between the 4 districts of Georgia 4-H. Our wonderful Northwest District soared to the top as winners of this year’s event. First class entertainment from Clovers & Company, community service projects, fun workshops and the Master 4-Her Banquet were also highlights for this special weekend.

The Master 4-H Banquet held a special honor and surprise for a former Chattooga County 4-Her. Matthew Daniel was recognized as an Additional Master 4-Her. Matthew became an active 4-Her in the 5th grade and continues to be active as an adult volunteer. Over his 4-H career, Matthew competed at State 4-H State Congress 3 times, served on the 2009-2010 Northwest District Senior Board of Directors, the 2012-2013 Collegiate 4-H President at ABAC , as well as a2013-2014 ABAC Colligate Board member. Matthew also served 3 summers as a Georgia 4-H Camp Counselor at Rock Eagle and Fortson 4-H Centers. Matthew is now one of the newest members of the Georgia 4-H Master 4-H Club.
