Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry is looking to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) to improve water lines on old Highway 27, north of Trion.

That area of the county has some of the oldest water delivery infrastructure in the county.  The target area would be in the Old Highway 27 – Airport Road area.  The county is estimating that it will cost around $1.2 million dollars for the project.  $1 million of that cost would come from the CDGB grant, and the county would be responsible for a minimum of $47,500.

There have been continuous problems with the older pipes in that area of the county breaking which leads to reduced water pressure and water quality for area residents on the county’s water system.

The county has contracted with Allan Smith Consulting to help with the CDGB grant application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
