According to the weekly COVID-19 report from the Georgia Department of Public Health, four people died from COVID-related illness in Northwest Georgia over the past week.  One of those deaths was a Chattooga County resident.

Two Bartow County residents and one Floyd County death were also classified as COVID-related.  A fifth death from Gordon County was listed as “probable” in the report.

In all, 165 Northwest Georgians came down with COVID, compared to 195 in each of the past two weeks. Statewide, 13,854 new cases were reported, down from 14,877 a week earlier.

The report also showed that Rome area hospitals had the highest COVID patient count since March over the past week.

The Georgia Department of Public Health issues their COVID-19 report each Wednesday. Since March 2020, Northwest Georgia has lost 1,332 residents to COVID and another 243 to “probable” causes involving the virus. Statewide, 31,952 virus deaths have been recorded as well as 6,408 probable deaths.
