The Chattooga River Fest is coming up this weekend and attendees will have a wide variety of activities to participate in and things to see and do.

The first-annual event is being hosted by the Chattooga River Group.  The group’s goal is to promote the use and conservation of the Chattooga River that flows the length of the county from Trion to Chattoogaville.

This week, the Chattooga River Group, along with some local Boy Scouts, pulled over 400 pounds of garbage from the river between Lyerly and Chattoogaville.  The Lyerly Fire Department also assisted in the cleanup.  Two blocked passages on the river were opened as a result of the cleanup.

Cooper Hampton and Parker Powell were the local boy scouts assisting in the effort.

The event this weekend will be based at Angus McLeod Park in Lyerly and will also feature a kayak paddle and a fishing tournament.
