In a clear message that crime does not pay, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia reported impressive achievements in financial recoveries for the 2024 Fiscal Year. Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. announced that the district successfully collected and forfeited more than $72 million, reinforcing the commitment to hold criminals accountable while providing restitution to victims.

A significant portion of the total, over $36 million, was recovered through the district’s Financial Litigation Program. This initiative is designed to collect civil and criminal debts, fines, and penalties, ensuring that victims of crime receive the justice they deserve. In addition to the collections, the district secured over $14 million in restitution, fines, and assessments from defendants involved in criminal cases. These funds contribute directly to the Department of Justice’s Crime Victim Fund, which plays a crucial role in compensating and assisting victims of crime through federal and state programs. Further bolstering these figures, the Northern District of Georgia also collected more than $21 million in affirmative civil enforcement cases.

These cases aim to recover government funds lost to fraud or misconduct, as well as to enforce compliance with various federal health care, safety, environmental laws, and regulations regarding controlled substances.
