Daikin America, a chemical manufacturer is asking the Georgia Supreme Court to weigh in on a lawsuit that was brought by a water customer of the City of Summerville.
The manufacturer wants the justices to determine third-party liability for companies that manufacture per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are chemicals that have been used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products since the 1940’s.
Those PFAS wound up in Summerville’s water supply at Racoon Creek and are the subject of a lawsuit filed in Federal Court.
Summerville resident Earl Parris, who served two years on the city council in the 1990s and again for four years ending in 2020, wants the people responsible for the contaminated water to cover the cost of a long-term solution.
