A man from Decatur, Georgia, is facing felony charges after allegedly depositing a check belonging to the Floyd County Board of Commissioners into his personal bank account. Darrell Lee Powell, 31, was arrested on Monday on a warrant charging him with identity fraud in connection with the incident. According to the arrest warrant, the check, originally issued by the Floyd County Board of Commissioners for $18,562.33, had been altered to appear as though it was payable to Powell. Authorities allege that Powell then deposited the fraudulent check into his own account. The case is currently under investigation, and further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses. Powell is currently being held pending further legal proceedings.
