A deer was apparently the cause of an accident on the Trion Teloga Road late Sunday evening.  According to reports, emergency workers were called to the scene of an accident where a pickup truck had flipped over.

When emergency crews arrived on the scene they could not locate anyone in the vicinity.  According to Chattooga 911 the owner of the vehicle spoke with a dispatcher and told them that a deer had jumped in front of his truck causing the accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there are about 1.5 million car accidents with deer each year that result in $1 billion in vehicle damage, about 150 human fatalities, and over 10,000 personal injuries.

The actual numbers are probably higher because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s figures for deer accidents, rely on inconsistent state reporting- there is no standard reporting of deer accidents in the country yet, and a "reportable deer accident" varies significantly between states.

According to the NHTSA, Georgia is 5th in the nation for accidents involving deer.
