If you haven’t hit a deer with your vehicle in Northwest Georgia, no doubt, you know someone who has.  Just last week, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office worked two car vs. deer collisions.  One was on Highway 27 just north of JBar in Trion and the other was near the intersection of Highway 27 and North Ridge Estates. 

While deer vs. car accidents are more prevalent deer mating season in the fall, deer collisions are becoming a year-round problem in Georgia.

State wildlife officials say that part of the issue is that there are just more deer now than there have been in the past and deer are adapting to urban and city dwelling.  That proves itself true here in Chattooga County where deer are frequently seen inside the city limits of Trion, Summerville, Lyerly and Menlo.

State officials say that Georgia sees between 45,000 and 55,000 deer vs. car crashes each year.  They also say that swerving to hit a deer is much more dangerous and leads to more human injury than hitting the deer that might jump in front of your vehicle.
