The Trion Middle School Baseball team has been named the NGAC 2021 League Co-Champions, following a long week of delays, among other issues, and ending in an unfinished Championship series.

Rain and COVID both are being blamed for the final result of Trion and Ringgold being named Co-Champions this year.

The Trion Middle School Bulldogs were set to take on Ringgold, last Monday May 3rd, in what should have been the first game in the best of 3 Championship series. However the game was delayed first due to a potential wet field. The game series was moved to the next available sunny day. Shortly after this announcement, Ringgold notified the league that they had several starting players out with COVID or due to contact tracing.

After several days of well documented dialogue, Trion eventually traveled to Ringgold last Friday for the first two of the three game series. Ringgold won the first game, and Trion swept the second game 8-1. Due to the late hour, the deciding game was scheduled to played on Saturday starting at 11 am.

Later that night, it was made aware that the Officials chosen for the games, had conflicting schedules and could not make the Saturday game, which meant that the game would have to be delayed again. Even after Trion procured other sanctioned Officials for the game, Ringgold would not play and so the series was delayed yet again.

The NGAC League Director, after receiving a letter from Trions Coaches and AD, which laid out the timeline and series of events with the request not to allow Schools to manipulate the system as had been done in this case; decided to make both Trion and Ringgold the NGAC 2021 Co-Champions. While some likely don’t agree with this decision, Trion Superintendent Phil Williams says that Trion Middle Schools has been named Co-Champions with Ringgold Middle School. Trion Middle School accepts this outcome and decision by the league.

Congratulations to the Trion Bulldogs for an outstanding year.
