The ongoing water problems now include discolored water. The discolored water is coming from Chattooga County Water District Well No. 7 which is being used to supplement water to the City of Summerville. Also, the Town of Lyerly water system has some areas which are supplied with supplemental water from Well No. 7.
On Wednesday, the City of Summerville decided to disconnect from the county’s water system and issued the following statement on Wednesday night:
Discolored water from Chattooga County Water Well #7 has been introduced into The City of Summerville’s water system. The city is currently flushing water lines to try to remove this water from the city’s distribution system. The City of Summerville has disconnected from Chattooga Well #7 until this matter can be resolved. Do not drink or cook with this water unless it is boiled. The City will provide updates as they become available.
On Thursday, Chattooga County Public Works Director Joe Reed told WZQZ News that the county conducted more tests on Well No. 7. Until those results are back, the boil water order is still being recommended. Reed said that if the tests come back showing that contaminants are too high in the well, the pump may have to be pulled.
